A few days ago, Joanne Fiorito announced on facebook that she had “justchased a gashole off my land who was idling his diesel engine while he chatted on his cell because the reception is good there….he rolled his window down and asked me what I called him, and I told him I asked you to leave, and proceeded to tell me he isn’t a gashole he’s a local….I said gashole it is then, now LEAVE! and he left! TIRED OF THEIR BULLSHIT…..not taking it anymore!”
I could sense her frustration. Joanne is fractivist and prolific fb poster from a once quiet corner of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Her environs have been systematically invaded by gas drilling interests. That day, her wit lacked the usual wry twist. I offered some solidarity from SEPA: “from the Philly suburbs, it sounds like the wild west up there. you’re a good neighbor, Joanne!”
Joanne replied: “if locals don’t want to be lumped in with those who are destroying our lands-air-water, then they best disguise their trucks better by placing a company logo on their vehicles…..until then – if your vehicle looks the same as the other industry pickup trucks with that box in the back bed that has a lube tube sticking out of the middle, then take a hint….”
Me: ” i read that Andrew Cuomo recently said that ‘the pro-hydrofrackers tend to live in the community, while the anti-hydrofrackers tend to be more activists‘ I’m starting to think “Community” may be a dogwhistle for something I can’t hear – ?”
Joanne “Liked” that.Edward Matthews wrote: “wow…. you should get a medal” and Carol Culver cheered: “you go girl!!!”
Gashole Johns
So who are the pro-fracking members of the community, anyway? Does the Oklahoma town where this now infamous Nomac employee was filmed picking up a prostitute behind a Mexican restaurant consider him to be a valued member of their community?
Shame. Shame. Shame. Video uploaded January 2011 via great share by Jet Miskis. Thanks, Jet!
On January 9, 2011 JohnTV.com® caught a driver in a Nomac Drilling (subsidiary of Chesapeake Energy) marked truck park behind a popular and locally owned Mexican Restaurant and pick up a known prostitute. The prostitute later told JohnTV that he exposed himself, etc. to prove he was not an undercover officer. He then took her cell phone number to contact her later. The purpose of JohnTV is: “to put a spotlight on the graphic realities of street prostitution, expose the perpetrators and dispel the myths that further the abuse.“
Jet Miskis wrote: “They call it ‘Boom and Bust’ when the gas industry comes into your town and changes the face of your town until they finish a frack job and leave you high and dry. But there’s another side to the ‘Boom and Bust.’ There is a Socially Deviant side to the fracking industry. Ask your local police department to gear up, hire more police, and hire more fire fighters, and watch. You know the children’s book called If You Give A Mouse A Cookie? Well, if you give a community fracking, you’re going to need more temporary housing, you’re going to have out of state rough-necks, you’re going to have more bar fights, more auto accidents with fracking vehicles, more chewed-up roads down to cinder, more speeding, more air pollution, more water quality issues, more traffic, more prostitution, more noise…. It just a fact folks.”
I scrolled back to find where Julie Ann Edgar shared Catskill Citizens for Safe Energy‘s photo. It urged us to call Cuomo, (518)474-8390 and tell him that New York Is Not For Shale!
